Apple IPHONE

> Got my iPhone4 last Friday. Got home to discover that my MacBook, which was running OS 10.4.11, needed to be updated to 10.5.8 or better.

From Apple's website for the iPhone:
> Mac system requirements
> • Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
> • Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
> • iTunes 9.2 or later (free download fromwww.itunes.com/download)
> • iTunes Store account
> • Internet access

> Found a thread on the Apple discussions site where someone mentioned removing & reinstalling the AMDS (deleting the AMDS files, then deleting iTunes, restarting the computer, downloading iTunes all over again, and installing).

What is (are?) AMDS? In 12 years of Mac, and 9 years of OS X, I've never heard that term.
Google is not helpful here.

> I did all that, up to downloading iTunes 9.2. But I cannot get iTunes 9.2 to install. Doubleclicking on the disk image does nothing. I've tried and tried many times - delete files, restart, download, doubleclick -- and nothing.

My approach:
1. Safe Boot
2. Log in (rather than restart) form the Safe Boot screen.
3. Run Repair Permissions.
4. Run Software Update.

When everything completes, reboot/restart.
